SPEKTAKL

King Matt the First

King Matt the First, based on a novel by Janusz Korczak, a play directed by Dagmara Żabska, was produced for the “Classics Alive” Competition for the Staging of the Old Works of Polish Literature. The play addressed the topic of adulthood, as a category underestimated in the contemporary world, and the problem of managing adverse situations, including failures. In these times when we are forced to smile, be or pretend to be successful, and glorify youth, the authors of the play show a world where immaturity is nothing but immaturity, where loneliness and lies happen, and the protagonist fails. The play asks the spectators certain questions: how to manage the world that fails to meet our expectations, how to manage our own failures?
